ITINERARY AT A GLANCE

MICE

It is said that a good meeting is like a good cup of cappuccino- tasty, smooth, full-bodied, simple, unpretentious, fun brings folks together at a table to discuss common interests and, hopefully, open their minds to new views, thoughts and ideas. A satisfying cup of cappuccino, however, is easier to make than a good meeting. For one, fewer ingredients are required. For another, measurements are exact, unlike producing great meetings, where you have to employ a variety of elements and still can't be sure about success until the event is over. That's why, when one comes across a meeting that works, one should celebrate it- just like a victory over a strong opponent. And, in fact, it doesn't apply only to meeting but to all other three letters of MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition). Hosting a meeting or convention is an art, not only a business matter.

Nepal is the best destination for MICE activities in Asia. Nepal offers everything one could possibly look for to hold a successful world-class event- great location, excellent infrastructure, comprehensive high-tech facilities, trained manpower. Logistically speaking, Nepal has best chain hotels like Crowne Plaza, Radisson, Hyatt which are well equipped with conference and meeting halls. Specially designed with world-class convention facilities, the hall comes with state-of-art audiovisual presentation equipment, simultaneous interpretation capabilities, motorized screens and theatrical lighting. International airlines like Thai Airways, Qatar Airway, Gulf Air, Jet Air, Jetlite, Silk Air, Ethiad Air, Air Arabia, Pakistan International Airlines, Druk Air, Biman Bangladesh, GMG Bangladesh, Indian Airlines, Korean Airlines, Air China, China Southern Airlines make regular flight to Kathmandu connecting it with major cities of the world. Throughout the year, the climate remains moderate in Kathmandu unlike many capital cities of South Asia. After hectic business schedule, the nightlife in Kathmandu is what people always want to enjoy- upbeat music, exciting dance, choicest booze, tasty food, dazzling casino. For pre and post conference tour, Nepal is a perfect destination because everything that one must see and feel in Nepal is close to its capital Kathmandu. Whether it's jungle safari that Hollywood actress Goldie Hawn or Supermodel Kate Moss enjoyed or the hiking Prince Charles or Pop star Mick Jagger or Former US President Jimmy Carter did, everyplace is an hour flight from Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley is the UNESCO World Heritage Site having seven monuments within a radius of 20kms. A meeting or convention at the World Heritage Site holds a great importance because Nepal is one of the few countries where two national parks are enlisted as World Heritage Site.

Apart from organizing various programmes pertaining to MICE activities, it also provides comprehensive information on facilities and services; suggests ideas for various programmes such as activities for spouses and pre/post event options; co-ordinates with the organizer and other government agencies to ensure the successful planning and staging of meetings and events; set up and facilitating arrangements with industry members; provides promotional materials and information for the Corporate Meeting; provides advice on venues and local market conditions; supplies visitor guides, brochures, maps, posters, videos.

Rafting is undoubtedly the best way to explore Arcadian Nepal. It involves excitement, scenic views and challenge. Nepal has numerous fine rivers for rafting, kayaking or canoeing. The most prominent white water rafting regions are the eastern, the mid and the Western rivers. Of all these regions, river Trisuli and the Bhote Koshi are the main popular rafting rivers as these rivers are soothing, relaxing. These rivers sometimes offer hair-raising roller coaster rides. The float down stream is exhilarating and the scenery of the valley gorges between Himalaya and Mid-Himalayan range is equally captivating. The other thrill in the rafting is camping on the clear sandy beaches with time to explore and visit the rural villages. So, whatever duration or level of excitement you need we have it all here in the rivers of Nepal.

BOATING

Nepal provides some fine opportunities for boating. These range from the glacier-fed lakes up North and down to where the laden rivers ease into the plains of the Terai. Pokhara’s Phewa Lake is the most popular destination for travelers wanting to indulge in recreational boating. It is the second largest lake in the kingdom and measures roughly 1.5 by 4 km. Its eastern shore, also known as Lakeside or Baidam, is the center of tourist activity in Pokhara.

Begnas and Rupa Tal are located 15 km out of Pokhara at the end of a road that turns off the Kathmandu highway. Both these lakes offer some splendid boating opportunities. Phewa, Begnas and Rupa Lakes were all part of the body of water that once filled the Pokhara valley.

Paragliding - Flying like a bird

Paragliding is a relatively new adventure sport in Nepal. Paragliding in this Himalayan country can be a truly wonderful and fulfilling experience for the adventure-seekers. You can experience unparalleled scenic grandeur as you share airspace with Himalayan griffin vultures, eagles, kites, while floating over villages, monasteries, temples, lakes and jungles, with a fantastic view of the majestic Himalayas.

Gliding is a weather dependent sport and the flying season in Nepal commences from November through February, the best months being November and December. By virtue of its latitude and monsoonal climate, the tree line in Nepal is at an incredible 3,900 m above sea level. With conditions milder than summer alpine, these are excellent and constant atmospherics.

The topography and climate of Nepal also make it an ideal destination for all levels of pilots- subtropical conditions provide plenty of thermals and combined with the long valleys common in Nepal, they produce perfect 'cloud streets' ideal for paragliders, inviting them to fly along this "sky highway". The local microclimate, controlled by the numerous lakes in the valley, is unique, which makes it even better for the glider.

The main area for flying in Nepal is the Annapurna region, more specifically the Pokhara valley. This lakeside town is Nepal's second "city", nestled at the foot of the Annapurna Himal, the views commanded from here, of 3 of the worlds 8000m peaks, are unsurpassed. At an altitude of 800m ASL the subtropical climate means that, year round, it is short and T-shirt weather. The micro-climate of the valley makes it an ideal area for flying, with far more constant conditions than the Kathmandu valley 150 km east.

There are several sites around Phew Tal (the lake) but the most accessible is Sarangkot (1500m ASL).

Royal Trek

This trek has been named as Royal Trek(1800m) after Prince Charles of Wales sauntered through the small hills in early eighties along with 90 entourage. Mick Jagger of Rolling Stone Fame also trekked this trail after Prince Charles. The Royal trek is highly recommended for beginners. It is a litmus test for those who want to try trekking but are unsure about the physical demands. As the route does not ascend to high altitude, the climate is warmer and you will have the opportunity to stroll through the rice terraced fields. This lower hill short circuit can be fitted into any travel itinerary and offers great views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu and Lamjung. It gives an opportunity to explore the villages of the middle hills mingling with Gurungs known for bravery and mountain tribes.
